Cosmetic Dentist Services
McGlone Dental Care, Denver Colorado
Today, cosmetic dentistry has become more popular than ever…from whitening and shaping to closing spaces and replacing teeth. Here at McGlone Dental Care we have a wide array of tools and techniques at our disposal for improving the look of your smile.
Teeth Whitening
Over time, teeth can become stained or discolored, especially after smoking, taking certain medications or consuming foods and beverages such as coffee and tea. We create custom mouthpiece trays that ensure the right fit and the right amount of whitening solutions reached your teeth. At home, whitening may be more convenient. Keep in mind that your teeth can become stained again after whitening, if you continue to expose them to the same substances that originally stained them. It is still important to continue good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash daily.
Bonding
Bonding may improve how your teeth look if they have excess space between them or if they are chipped, broken, stained or cracked. We also use bonding materials to fill small cavities or to protect the exposed root of a tooth. We usually do this procedure in a single office visit by applying an etching solution followed by tooth-colored materials directly to the tooth's surface, where needed. Although bonding can last for several years, it is more likely than other types of restorations to chip, become stained or just wear down.
Veneers
These custom shells, typically made of porcelain (sometimes plastic), cover the front side of the teeth to change their shape and color. Veneers last longer than bonding and provide a superior appearance. Veneers can improve teeth that:
- Have spaces between them
- Have become chipped or worn
- Are permanently stained
- Are poorly shaped
- Are slightly crooked
Before inserting veneers, we first take impressions of your teeth, then buff the teeth before cementing temporary veneers in place. A beam of light helps harden the cement, which secures the veneer to your tooth.
Crowns/Onlays
Sometimes called caps, crowns completely cover the tooth and onlays restore a normal shape and appearance.
You may need crowns for:
- To cover a misshapen or discolored tooth
- Protect a weak tooth
- Restore a broken or worn out tooth
- Cover a tooth with a large filling
- Hold a dental bridge in place
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a tooth that has had a root canal tooth procedure.
Crowns can be made from metal, porcelain fused to metal, ceramic materials, and zirconia porcelain. We prepare the tooth for the crown, take alginate impressions of the teeth, and provide a temporary crown while the permanent crown is being made. Crowns are made in dental labs. It takes about 5 to 7 days to get the permanent crown returned from the lab. Then we have you come back in to have the crown seated or placed. Crowns can last forever if you take good care of them.
We'd love to be your cosmetic dentist of choice and help you come up with a plan that is just right for you!
